1. Run to Read Half Marathon

Prickett's Fort State Park, Fairmont, WV

Organized in 2006, this event moves to a new day (Sunday) and start time (2pm) in 2011. The course is a double out and back on 2 adjoining rail trails. The first section is 5 miles long and goes through the historic Meredith Tunnel. The race finishes on the second trail which has a crushed limestone surface. Over 245 racers finished in 2011.

2. Run to Read 15K

First held in 2000, this race has a double loop, paved course through residential neighborhoods near Fairmont State University. It had more than 50 finishers in 2011.

3. Run to Read 5K

That's right, the same day and location as the 15K. No worries, they are held one after other so you can run both!

Organized in 1999, this is the "granddaddy" of the Run to Read Races. The event drew a record 134 runners in 2010. The nearly flat, paved course goes around Fairmont Senior High and overlaps part of the 15K course.

Technical shirts will be given to those who finish all 3 events. There are three ways to pick-up your tee:

1. At the 2012 half marathon (preferred method).

2. After November 1 at the Literacy Volunteers office. Please call ahead to make sure the office is open, (304)366-6055.

3. Send us $5 after November 1 and we'll mail it to you (least preferred method).

Rules . . . How It Works

Age Graded Scoring

It's similar to that used by the Morgantown Area Grand Prix. Runners must finish all 3 events to qualify for championship (and to get free shirt).

Overall Winners

Female winner and male winner receive free entry to all 2012 events (half marathon, 15K and 5K). No forms to fill out - automatic pre-registration.

Series Standings

After half marathon and final standings will be posted at www.runningintheusa.com/run2read and on www.iPlayOutside.com.

USATF Certified

All 3 races have USATF certified courses and all 3 races are USATF sanctioned events.

To Benefit

All 3 races benefit Literacy Volunteers of Marion County (LVMC), a United Way agency and a 501-(3) organization. LVMC is affiliated with Literacy West Virginia and Pro Literacy Worldwide. LVMC offers free tutoring to adults and children in reading, math and ESL (English as a second language).
