Update: Race Date Changed from Jan. 9 to Jan. 16
The half marathon is postponed until 1/16/10 due to ice on the trails. Race director, Jim Woolfitt, had a lengthy discussion with Marion County Parks and Recreation (MCPARC) director Dan Talbott yesterday at Prickett's Fort. His crew can plow the snow off the trails on which the race is run but the cold temperatures are making it very difficult to remove the icy crust from the trail.
Packet Pick-Up Update
Packet pick-up and the post-race refreshments are both at Prickett's Fort. Directions are below. There is no change.
Jim and his race crew are not 100% sure if they will have use of the Prickett's Fort Visitor's center or not. If they do not, packet pickup and late registration will be held outside. The bathrooms should still be available.
Options for Pre-Registered Racers
For those who are pre-registered & unable to attend on the 16th, they are offering free registration either to their next half marathon on January 8, 2011 or their summer event, the Run to Read 15K/5K, on June 12, 2010 also held in Fairmont, WV.
Pre-registrants who would like to get a free entry need to e-mail run2read@yahoo.com or mail a letter to LVMC, 601 Locust Avenue, Fairmont, WV 26554 by Jan. 30, 2010. Pre-registrants who would like to get a free entry need to e-mail run2read@yahoo.com or mail a letter to LVMC, 601 Locust Avenue, Fairmont, WV 26554 by Jan. 30, 2010. Check www.runningintheusa.com/run2read for further details.
Extended Registration
If you know anyone who might be interested in registering they will extend the pre-registration deadline until Jan. 11, 2010 for mailed entries. They are working with signmeup to extend the deadline for online registrations.
Lodging Update
The Fairmont Holiday Inn is offering a special rate for the weekend of Jan.16. People who have already made reservations for the weekend of Jan. 9 need to contact the Holiday Inn and cancel those reservations. For anyone with irreversible plans to travel to the area this weekend, there is a 10-mile race in western Maryland.
Race director, Jim Woolfitt and crew are sorry for any inconvenience that this has caused. So far, there are over 170 pre-registered runners from 11 states and Canada, a new record. This event would not normally get postponed due to cold temps in the teens or twenties. They feel that the race course is currently unsafe with the ice that is present.
Feel free to e-mail Jim at run2read@yahoo.com.
