12th Annual Gene's Run for Special Olympics

4 Mile Run/Fun walk for Special Olympics. Established in 1987, Gene's run has become a local favorite. It is the second of only two evening races on the circuit and it is the only entry that is not of a standard 5 or 10K distance. The four-mile course starts in the Greenmont section of Morgantown, winds through South Park to White Park and returns to finish in front of that most venerable of local landmarks: Gene's Place. The summer weather and rolling course pose a real challenge, but it is a challenge that is well rewarded: free suds, soft drinks, and fruit courtesy of Gene's provide participants an opportunity to cool down and socialize while waiting for the post-event awards presentation. Other features include T-shirts and more than 100 trophies donated by Morgantown Sports Center. An enjoyable and rewarding way to contribute to a worthy cause.
Entry Fee: $10.00 pre-registration paid by July 14. Late registration/day of race $12.00. All entrants will receive a t-shirt. Only pre-registered entrants guaranteed on race day.
Run: Overall 1st, 2nd and 3rd for Male and Female runners. The number of awards for both male and female runners are indicated in parenthesis following the age category below:

Race Route:
- Assembly Point: Gene's parking lot, Wilson and Green
- Start at Green and Arch
- Continue on Wilson crossing Kingwood, Washington, Ash, Park and Grand
- Go past Morgantown High School and turn right onto Allison
- Left onto Wagner from Allison
- At the end of Wagner turn left onto Dorsey
- Up Dorsey and turn right onto West Virginia
- Left onto Leonard
- Left onto Madison
- Right onto Hite, continuing through White Park
- Right on Mississippi to Madigan
- Madigan to Barrickman
- Barrickman to Dorsey
- Return to Gene's, duplicating the starting route.
- Finish line: Wilson Avenue in front of Gene's at Alley.
